What are these DNS changes?

So, you’ve set up your first redirect and now you need to make some DNS changes.

But what exactly does this mean?

DNS changes are essential to guide the internet on where to locate the servers for any given record on your domain. For using RedirHub, we need to signal that example.com should point to a specific location, like3.33.236.10. This is done by updating the DNS settings for your domain.

These DNS updates should be made with your domain provider. Typically, this is done through your domain registrar, such as GoDaddy, Hover, etc. If you use external nameservers like Cloudflare, you’ll need to make the changes there.

Not sure where your DNS is hosted? A simple way to find out is to check where your nameservers are pointing. You can use an online tool like WhatsMyDNS to do this: WhatsMyDNS – NS Lookup.

Once you’ve set up the redirect in your RedirHub account, the necessary DNS changes will be listed under the ‘Hostnames’ tab.

You can use both CNAME and A record types. We recommend CNAME for most records, except for non-www (apex) records. The advantage of using CNAME is that it remains up-to-date if there’s an IP change. For more details about the different DNS record types, you can read What DNS types can I use?

After making the necessary DNS changes, it may take up to 24 hours for the updates to fully propagate. Please be patient during this time.
